James, My guess is that you are using DHCP on both and that both can see the Internet, but not each other. Right? If so, a better setup would be to make one machine your internet gateway sing connection sharing and the other a purely local machine. Your gateway machine could also then be the firewall, limiting your need to manage security to only one.
