If so you need to: > ln -s scd1 /dev/dvd As it turned out , the DVD-ROM was /dev/scd0,while writer was /dev/scd1 I find that going to properies of each icon and manually retyping seems to give access. Yes, I had already done that, but now that I have ln -s scd0 /dev/dvd that has stopped too.
