ATA is EIDE renamed. If your hardware supports a disk that size you are fine. Old mobo's may not without a jiggery-pokery fix to fool the BIOS. I hope you aren't trying to slap 40Gigs on a 486. http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/index.htm http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/ATA.html > Upon launching Diskdrake, it announces it is having problems reading the > partition table and warns about proceeeding and then when I go ahead and > delete all partitions except the windows partition and add others, it will > not format the partitions. So I am stuck. I hate to say this but when i got tangled like this i: * cleared the disk as much as possible with my mandrake partition tool (from 7.1 text mode). * used windows fdisk to set a D: drive. From my windows install floppy. * went back to mandrake and did a reinstall. You'll throw them out because your house will be littered with them.
