Mark; I don;t suppose you've considered re-installing? You could save your config files to a floppy, and leave your "/home" partition alone during the install, and that would solve the problem for sure! You'd have to name the home partition (create mount point for /home), and you'd have to make sure you don't format it during the install, but otherwise everything would be back again as soon as you login. It's just a thought, but assuming you've made a package list floppy, it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes, and look at how much time you've spent on this problem already! I realize that you're probably trying to solve the problem rather than re-installing Mandrake, but if you can't use it properly, then mabe it's time to take the plunge?
