Well I put it on another machine, formatted the Linux off it and installed Win2000 ... guess what S L O W and wasn't even on the network ;-) While taking it out the machine I noticed it had a 3 year warrantee and still valid, so logged on to Maxtor and seems I just need to send it back and two days later a replacement arrives! Anyway, latest saga ... probably the last as I'm pretty well sick of trying to get Mandrake to work on my machine ... is that the MS optical mouse won't work. Tried a work around Derek found me: "you�ve got to edit the /etc/modules file, just include the hid module you must add "hid" into the file /etc/modules then the mouse works fine" but still doesn't work.
