I hope this isn't too basic a question!

I've been running a Mandrake server on my network for nearly a year now and
it is great. Currently all network clients are running some flavour of
Windows. I would like to begin to migrate clients to Linux but the first
problem is how to validate user logins etc. from the server. I have set up a
Linux client but I can see no obvious way of obtaining user authentication
from my server. I need this so that:
1. When I mount NFS shares the perm's operate correctly.
2. I only need to maintain one user database for the entire network.
3. It seems a sensible way for things to work!

Thanks,

        Mark
