Scott, your problem seems to indicate a K6 - CPU , right ? In this case point your browser to the Mandrake homepage and click "errata". Once there, you'll find the explanation, and the fix : download a small "patch", copy it to a floppy, re-install 8.2 and, at the splash-screen, press F1 and type "patch". That's all.
