That means I can take the drive out of its current USB housing, which only
works in winblows, and is limited to 4X, and on linux hopefully use the full
16X (it has 4mb internal buffer as well.)

I'll let yall know how I go...

Should be good enough. I have a 300MHz PII with 160MB and I can burn at
16x and the buffers stay at 100%. I think ram is the biggest part of it
as you want to be able to keep enough in ram so the buffers don't get
empty in the middle of a burn. HTH.
