Copernic is based on your home computer and makes a request to multiple 
search engines from there, ie a home based metasearcher. Web Ferret is the 
other Windows based one i am familiar with.

I find this site is worth visiting at least six monthly.

explains the methods used by each and how to access them. Well worth 
bookmarking beside Google and Altavista
