I can't explain why your setup fails but I've installed from both LXM CD & LXF DVD into Mandrake 8.2, here's how I did it if it helps. 1) su to root 2) cd /tmp 3) tar -xzvf /mnt/cdrom/Office/OpenOffice/OOo_1.0.0_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz/ 4) cd /tmp/install 5) ./install 6) NOW back out of ROOT and back to myself as USER 7) made sure I was still in /tmp/install and typed ./setup >From there the installer worked properly
