Well,

I got the machine to post, start mdk linux 8.1 kernel circa 2.4. As the
system boots the messages get to a certain point and the screen goes blank
the light stays green on the monitor like it is receiving a video feed from
the card but nothing appears. I know that this is vague, but upon putting my
PCI card and Hard disk back in my old box I am able to boot, login and send
this this message. I think this is a hardware/bios setting with the Soyo
board not starting X. I tried the AGP card first and then my Voodoo 3 PCI
card and both times the system got to a certain point past the Mandrake
interactive message and the system would stop dead. cntl + alt + del caused
the system to do a controlled shutdown. I have tried an interactive boot
