So I must be partially right, I did urpme on the dkms nvidia-kernel and just left the nvidia package only. Now I can get to the desktop and make internet connection. The 7174 Nvidia-kernel is broken for my video card (Gforce 4 mx400 agp). I may try the older driver later to see if it works in LE 2005.
