Apache is not set to start automaticly when you boot the system, and it has only the most basic configuration. You are susposed to fine-tune the configuration for your use before starting it. On the other hand, if you have a firewall between your machine and the Internet, you can get away with turning it on, and playing with it. Just make sure you understand the confiiguration, and apply all the updates gefore you even think of letting anyone from the outside connect to the box. (There have been some updates sence 10.1 was released.)
