Good on ya, Mike.
KDE is not the ONLY desktop/window mangler. Neither is Gnome (otherwise
known nowadays as "Gee, No Me!".

You might also want to attempt playing with things like XFce,
Enlightenment, PekWM, Waimea, Blackbox, Fluxbox, Openbox, AfterStep,
GNUStep - there are heaps of different window manglers - along with a
slew of file manglers. It's a big linux world out there ya know!
