| philippe, open a console and cd to the file where you saved the firefox
| download . Then do "tar -xvzf firefox-installer*" . That will untar to a
| new folder called firefox-installer. Now do a cd again like" cd
| firefox-installer-1.0.4" then type in "./firefox-installer" all without
| quotes. This will start the install and you only have to click on a few

Yup. I installed (upgraded) from the tarball today. One thing you may want
to do before running the installer is save your old /usr/lib/firefox/plugins
directory and rename the old firefox installation directory to
/usr/lib/OLDfirefox or something similar. And, a good place to direct the
installer is to put firefox in /usr/local/firefox. After the install, copy
the contents of your old usr/lib/firefox/plugins directory into the new
firefox/plugins directory. That works. If typing "firefox" from a terminal
fails to open ver 1.04, or won't open firefox at all, then the
/usr/bin/firefox is probably not pointing to the new version. Rename the old
/usr/bin/firefox and link the firefox executable from your new installation
to the /usr/bin and you will be set to go.
At least, that is what I did and ver 1.04 works fine.
