On my box where the printer is, I have a desktop link to the Cups WWW 
Configuration Tool.  I find that the easiest way to deal with this sort of 
problem, by stopping the printer then re-starting it.  I also find that it 
often displays "Media Tray Empty" when it gets its knickers in a twist, and I 
deal with that the same way.

Just one caution - you need to open the Administration page and log in as root 
to do it.  Oh, and by the way, it's so easy to stop a print job, when you've 
got one of those that prints one line of gobbledegook at the top of 5 million 
pages.
