On my box where the printer is, I have a desktop link to the Cups WWW Configuration Tool. I find that the easiest way to deal with this sort of problem, by stopping the printer then re-starting it. I also find that it often displays "Media Tray Empty" when it gets its knickers in a twist, and I deal with that the same way. Just one caution - you need to open the Administration page and log in as root to do it. Oh, and by the way, it's so easy to stop a print job, when you've got one of those that prints one line of gobbledegook at the top of 5 million pages.
