A bit more detailed description of hte problem would help. Does the
mouse work normaly with local programs, but erratic when connecting to
the remote X programs? Or is the mouse erratic all the time? If it is
erratic at all times, then I suspect you have the wrong mouse in your X
configuration.

Are you running individual programs on the HP-UX, or are you connecting
to a window manager on that machine? If you are connecting to a window
manager on the HP-UX, what type of connection are you running? If it is
a slow connection, are you allowing enough time for communations delay?
(Slow mouse movements, etc.)

On a slow connection, you may also want to look into a compressed
connection - I like ssh with X forwarding and compression enabled.
