Best of all is if you can spend a little more to buy a router that
includes some hub capability. They are often described as having two or
four RJ45 sockets. If you can do that you configure the router to be the
gateway to the Internet, and both computers connect through that. It's
easy to get this set up with the help of the list. HTH

I've been looking at prices etc. Defintely affordable. Just to make
sure I'm on the right track - something described as 8 port network hub
with RJ45 cable, would be appropriate?
Thanks

That will work, but if you see something called an 8 port network switch that will work better as it manages the flow of traffic and prevents collisions. In other words it has a faster process. They are also not very expensive. HTH

Thanks - I think terminology might be an issue, as I have been looking for a couple of days. I'll check thoroughly before I buy ...

A router is faster than a hub, and a very cheap interface to the
internet connection at the same time. My SMC has 8 rj45, 1 WAN for
the modem, and a parallel printer port for a network printer as
well.

Ahh - that sounds exactly what I think I need. Thanks
