You will need to boot into DOS to apply it. A boot floppy is all you

But chance is not with me ;-(
I've found the patch needed for CD-Rom Drive 8482B, and finally managed
to boot with DOS.
But applying the firmware patch, it just complaints that it doesn't
find the CD-Rom drive...
This patch can be applied after the CD-Rom disabled due to the first
Mandrake 9.2 install attempt ?
