Hi Chris,
I am glad I could help. The thing about installing from RPMs is that
the installer does a check before trying to install. So a bad download
or CD image normaly results in refusing to install the package. But if
it installs, then the problem is in ether an error during install, or
during the loading.

In this case, I suspect hardware problems. The fact that the memory
test rebooted itself tends to confirm this. I have run the memory test
for 48 hours on machines in the past with no reboots. Unfortunitly, the
fact that the system reboots more of an indication of other problems,
rather then a memory problem. The test is good about reporting errors,
so it probably is something other then bad memory that caused this. (But
try to get the memory test to complete at least one pass to make sure.)
It could be something like a bad power supply, or heat buildup because
of a bad fan. This kind of problem is always fun to find!
