you might consider setting up a dyndns website, running PHP postnuke or 
php-nuke and setting up your own webmail server, and allowing yourself 
use /home/username/public_html as 'name.dyndns.org/~Snapafun' aloowing ssh, 
and use fish if you are on a KDE box... may not really equal 'getting-on 
using' linux, but might do what you want....
