You can also make tempary connections to shares on your XP machine by running Smb4k. You are probably going to want to edit /etc/samba/samba.conf to fine tune things, or use one of the GUIs that does it for you. You should probably read the Samba documentation about adding Samba users and setting their passwords. This should get you started. The entire procedure is realy too large to cover here, and there is plenty of documentation already written on how to do it.
