I have a LAN with two machines: one is LE2005 and the other WXP. The XP box

mount/unmount via SAMBA and LinNeighborhood. However, if the WXP box is
shutdown/restarted or crashes, before unmounting the shared volumes the
LE2005 box can't remount the shares. Attempting to unmount them is met with
the error "<share> does not appear to be an SMB filesystem". Rescanning the
WXP machine doesn't allow me to remount even at a new location. The only
way I can re-establish the connection is by restarting the LE2005 box and
remounting the shared drives.
This was not a problem with a W2K predecessor on the same LE2005 box. Any
thoughts on how to remount the shared drives without rebooting?
TIA

Paul; When you say that the XP shares are mounted via Samba, do you mean that you're adding mount points on the LE2005 box via MCC? Or are you also trying to mount the XP shares using LinNeighborhood and it's having the same effect?

Personally, I don't use either of those mounting options. Instead, I browse for them using Konqueror (ie; smb://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/XP Share), and once located (and username/password has been supplied), I drag them from the address bar into the Network section of Konqueror's Navigation Panel. Once there and renamed to suit my needs, I then drag 'n' drop them onto my desktop.

Since they're not actually mounted, I don't have those issues, but They are just as available to me as mounted shares, without the hassle.

HTH's.
