In KCC (KDE Control Center), Expand the Components tree in the Index pane. 
Click on 'File Associations'. Expand the Text tree in the Known Types pane. 
Click on the html file type. Highlight /Mozilla Firefox' in the Application 
Preference Order pane. Click the 'Move Up' button to the right until it is at 
the top. Click the 'Apply' button at the bottom right. This should make 
Mozilla FireFox the preferred browser for html files and (IIUC) URLS. You may 
also want to do the same for the xml file type.
