If your bootloader gets blown, and you have to do a recovery, you put
the floppy in the drive, boot it, and you're into your hard drive Linux
installation, just as if the bootloader on the HD had worked.

Having a floppy that'll boot the HD Linux installation is really handy
if you need to restore lilo to the boot sector.
With my multiple-boot scenarios I usually don't have lilo in the MBR any
more, but on several clients machines I do use lilo as a bootloader, and
having the floppy has come in handy a few times.
