And have you tried running harddrake2, as root?  If the hardware probe succeeds 
you might find the card listed as a disk, sda, sdb, or whatever.  You could then
try mounting the partition manually.  I have done this all the time for USB 
drives,
up to 10.1.  But I guess you don't really want to do this.  Check Kaj's 
suggestions.
