Evo runs on anything as long as you have the proper libraries installed; so it
will run under KDE, WindowMaker, Fluxbox/Blackbox, IceWM, XFce4 - you name
it. As well, Kontact/Kmail will do the same - as long as you have the
dependencies/libraries installed.
I will state, however, that after being an Evo user for many years I've moved
to using Kontact/Kmail for the functionality of it - Evo used to have many of
the features that Kontact/Kmail have now, but have lost them in the
development process somewhere along the line - and it's a hefty package for
not having what it used to have - which I contribute to the Gnome folks
(Gnome = Gee, No Me!) and program/library bloat. Although much the same can
be said for KDE, at least they keep functionality and stability. Crashes
occur more often in Evo than they have in Kontact/Kmail.
Also, there is an alternative to the two aforementioned packages -
Thunderbird. It is wm/desktopo independent and rather nicely put together.
