Here's a couple of places I have used - maybe there is something here to
help. So far as I understand Canon is not generally supportive of Linux
and doesn't release drivers, but some products do work. Maybe also try
googling each printer and Linux.

Thank you very much for the info. Neither of my alternatives seem to be
supported according to those websites, but I've read somewhere else they
are working for some other users.
Of course, that requires compilation and other stuff still new for me
but your answer was very helpful.
