When I read this list, I'm most of the time at the office, using the Evil
Software. When replying to a message, this software isn't aware of the
possibility not to top post, so I often forget to do it manually (shame on
me, I know). When replying to the list, I obviously hit "send" to fast...
And I say "oups... The top post rule... Again"...
Also, all the mailing lists I'm on right now (about 15) have their own rules
(hard to remember all those different rules, but this is the only one
"forcing" users to write the answer at the end of the post. Personnaly, I
prefer the top post (faster to find the answer to a question), but I have to
admit it's easyer to follow thread with the way this mailing list is doing.
A way to answer that is completely unclear to me, is answering within the
original post (hard to see where the answers are)...
Nobody is "forcing" users to bottom post. Just as no one is forcing them
to post in plain text and not html. But if you want to maximize your
chance of getting a helpfull responce, is is a good idea to follow list
etiquette. The choice is yours...
When the origional post asks several questions, or makes several points,
it is often clearer to answer each point directly after the point. Now,
if each point is going to be a long answer, then it is ofter better to
break each point into a seperate message thread.
The messages I find hardest to follow are the ones that have both top
and bottom posts. If I answer one of them, and I am responding to the
top post, I delete everything after the top post. But I usualy just
ignore messages like that as being too much work to try follow.
