At least with Linux, problems can be solved. Often just some config tweaking
or package installation. Sometimes waiting for a bug fix. Worst case, fixing
the bug yourself.

With M$, you know the bugs are never going to be fixed. Word still has bugs in
it that were there 10 years ago (e.g. handling of nested numbered lists).
Same with bugs that were in NT4 and are still in XP. Just for laughs, I once
tried to get one of the Word bugs fixed, several years ago. M$ wouldn't even
log a bug unless I paid them to, because I had an OEM install and no support
contract. They told me their OEM contracts required the vendor to fix the
bugs. For obvious reasons (such as not having access to the source code), the
vendor responded that they had no way to fix the bug, or even log it (no
access to M$ bug reporting). They told me to go back and talk to M$. Didn't
take long for me to tire of chasing my tail. That's when I installed Open
Office. It's not perfect either, but when it's free, I don't have quite the
same expectations as for something I paid for.
