[newbie] Dialup-ing to the internet

I have just installed my Viking (generic) modem and I'm trying to get online.

I'm not sure what authentication method should I use for my local provider (Cable and Wireless) but none seem to be working.  I'm not really sure if the problem is for the authentication method or any other issue.

I can hear my model dialing and hand shaking but mcc tells me (while testing right after installing) that it doesn't seem to be working.

Where should I start troubleshooting?
