Hmm
Alt-Ctrl F2 or F4 (or any F Key) gives me a login box
My local username is recognised but neither "halt" "reboot" "restart" works
Exit or Quit will log out of that username, but I don't have any way of
then getting rid of that black screen ??
trying to login as root won't work.
doesn't recognise username/password :(

OK, I've seen that before and don't really know how to solve it. This issue is (please feedback will be appreciated): you can't loging as root on the console and you do not get your usual choices after installing, that is, shoot down, etc, etc. This happens to me once and don't know why that installation didn't work as it was supposed to, even thoguh same sources was used to other computers and the rest seem to be fine.
Addressing an alternative method (and this is FYI becuase I don't thik is gonna get any faster for just rebooting) is the following:
ctrl-alt-F?, username, enter, password, enter, 'su' command, enter, root password, enter, type: reboot, enter and that's it. This is going to get your computer rebooted, but as mentioned before this is not a smart way to do it, is a workaround. Your main issue here (and if you get the answer, please let me know how to fix it) is:
1. can't login as root on a console
2. not getting usual choices when facing with GUI login
Anybody else on the list that could probably guide these newbies?
