Useful things to know about privoxy

When it is running go to
http://config.privoxy.org/  and you will be directed to your own local privoxy
server instead of the privoxy home page.
Here you can enable/disable privoxy and customise it, although in my
experience the default settings are almost perfect. You might want to disable
it for some sites if it interferes with tour Internet banking for example.

If you use the Opera browser F12 will enable you to switch between privoxy and
non proxy easily.

There are extensions for Firefox to do some of Privoxy's functions although
none of them seem quite as extensive.

I have used privoxy for about 3 years now, and I have got used to seeing the
internet without all those adverts and popups. Now when I see the web without
privoxy it looks 'scary'.

Does it slow down the connection speed? I don't think my provider is having inconveniences but I feel it noticeable slow now.
