With a laptop, you don't change hardware very often. If you do change the hard drive, then you are probably going to have to do a re-install or at least a restore from backup, so that is not a problem. HardDrake is not used for things like plugging in a USB device, or a PCMCIA or Cardbus card. Hotplug and HAL take care of that. (They take care of it even if you have the device plugged in at boot.)

Now, if you plug in a USB hard drive that is not partitioned, you can run HardDrake manually and configure it. Just highlight the device, and click on "Run Configuration Tool". It is menu driven.
