Is this under Hardware > Configure Your Monitor?  If so, it doesn't see
the external monitor as being a twin-head arrangement, so maybe I can't
do this.

Could it be because they are different resolution?  Does it work if you
set them both to 1024x768?

When I went to MCC - Configure your monitor I see a title "configure for head 1" so I asume it would probably need to detect your hardware first so you can have another device to choose from.  Maybe with the profiles->new menu?
