Hi,
I tried to install mandriva 2006 on a computer with a tnt graphics
card. No X windows. Browsed the list for a solution and found a few
posts with a solution, "download the rpm's from 2005 an with rpm -Uvh
--oldpackage *,rpm the problem would be solved"
.
I downloaded every 2005 file with xorg-x11* in a empty directory and
used the command rpm -Uvh --oldpackage *.rpm and landed in dependency
hell .
What is going wrong ?

SoS has the latest Xorg rpm's for 2006
http://seerofsouls.com/rpm2006.html
You'll have to download them and install them manually.
As you're using the rpm command, all related packages must be in the
same argument (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
#rpm -Uvh --oldpackage package1.rpm package2.rpm and so on
Even when just downloadin just the packages already installed,
'rpm -Fvh' should be used. As the OP should have used it too, from
'man rpm',
...........................
rpm {-F|--freshen} [install-options] PACKAGE_FILE ...
This will upgrade packages, but only if an earlier version
currently exists. The PACKAGE_FILE may be specified as an ftp or
http URL, in which case the package will be downloaded before being
installed. See FTP/HTTP OPTIONS for information on rpm's internal
ftp and http client support.
...........................
IOW's -U is much the same as install (-i), it will install even
if the package is not currently on the system. -F will only install
(upgrade) existing packages already on the system.
