What you want is:

Thanks Mikkel
The nearest I can find is /etc/udev/rules.d/50-mdk.rules which contains the
following:-
# cdrom symlinks and other good cdrom naming:
BUS="ide", KERNEL=="hd[a-z]", PROGRAM="/sbin/cdsymlinks %k", SYMLINK+="%c{1}
%c{2} %c{3} %c{4} %c{5} %c{6}"
But its not clear how I would edit this to achieve my aims. Do you have any
ideas pleasr
Pete
Hi Pete,
They may have changed things for 2006 - on my 2005LE box, the
dvd.rules file is in addition to the 50-mdk.rules file. I can not
check for it in 2006, because I only have it on my laptop so far,
and it does not have a DVD.
You could try creating the dvd.rules file with the rules above,
and see if it creates the symlinks correctly the next time you
boot. I suspect that the dvd.rules file is created when you use
MCC to specify mount points.
One last point - you normally do not edit the 50-mdk.rules file.
If you want to override the settings in it, you would create a
10-local.rules file and put the rules in there.
