Do not put a cross in 'updates' for main and contrib. The 'updates' box means that source will be checked to look for security updates, and since those sources will never change there is no point. It will just slow down your update procedure. If the enabled box will not stick in plf or updates, then it means the source definition is incorrect. Delete them and define them again. > > Worst of all is that I did something way too clever a couple of weeks ago > (before I understood that not all the software on the DVD gets installed > during the installation of 2006) > and removed the DVD as a source for urpmi. > No way is apparent to reverse this. You do not need the DVD if you have 'main' and 'contrib'. If you really want to put the DVD back on select 'Add Custom' from the source define GUI and select the 'removable media' and 'create media for whole distribution' check boxes. Put the mount point of your dvd in the box for 'Path'. > > I'm itching to delete Amarok and KsCD because of their over-eager > tendency to hijack my intentions ; > and because they somehow leave other applications like Limewire and Grip > voiceless until reboot. > But if I have to reinstall them after discovering that the alternatives > are equally frustrating > there will be trouble with the enforcer of the download budget. You can fix the behaviour of kscd and amarok. In kscd select 'Extras>Configure' and uncheck the 'Direct digital playback box' Sound will then be played through the analogue channel of your sound card and will not interfere with other sounds. In amarok install amarok-engine-arts and amarok-engine-xine and in amarok settings select the arts engine. If that does not work try the xine engine. If you still have sound problems you may need to tune your sound modules configuration as suggested at http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/ If you need help post the contents of /etc/modprobe.conf derel -- www.jennings.homelinux.net http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org ____________________________________________________ Want to buy your Pack or Services from Mandriva?
