How they behave is determined by the keymap. They generate
different scan codes, but they may be mapped to the same function.
For example, in Config --> Keyboard Shortcuts, there are called
Alt_L and Alt_R. The default is to Map Alt_L to mod1, but some
people like to make Alt_R to mod1 as well.
