I guess it depends on how you look at it, but I would say you have a
network - a small one. It consists of your computer and the ADSL
modem.  The bridge interface may be left over from when you tried to
share the ADSL connection. What I would do is fire up MCC, go to the
"Network and Internet" tab, and pick "Delete a network interface".
If there is a bridge interface listed, delete it. If there isn't an
Ethernet interface, or if it is set up as part of the bridge, you
may have to create/edit the connection to your ADSL modem.

If you want to share the modem between more then one computer, the
easy way to do it is to buy a firewall/router. The wired-only ones
have really come down in price. Using one gives you several
advantages. You do not have to have any specific computer on in
order to access the Internet. It adds another layer of protection
for your computers. It also makes setting up a home network simple
because the router does most of the work for you.
