My original question; since I have a 192.168.x.x IP address on my box,
and kpf is set to share "/home/folder" on port 8001, what should an
outside user point their browser to?

you will need an IP that DNS can find, (check dyndns.org and setup one)
then you will need to open port 8001 to the box with the webserver on
it, in your router's config (try http:192.168.x.1) then have your family
point their browser to "http://whatever_name.dyndns.org:8001" (without
the quotes, and change whatever_name.dyndns to the correct fully
qualified domain name you select/register.
