I have had something similar long time ago. I could solve it by adding
Option "sw_cursor" to the X config-file in Section "Device" for the
videocard:
e.g.
Section "Device"
Identifier "Speedstar"
VendorName "Diamond"
BoardName "A50"
VideoRam 8192
Option "no_imageblt"
Option "sw_cursor" <<----
Option "no_bitblt"
EndSection
