There are other scripts that generate fstab, or at least
alter its entries. I think it has something to do with HAL,
but I really don't know. The first line of the file reads

# This file is edited by fstab-sync - see 'man fstab-sync' for details

They're all like this on the client:

server.miark.net:/var/shared/music /mnt/music nfs 
rsize=8192,wsize=8192,nosuid,soft 0 0

And the server:

/var/shared/music       192.168.0.0/24(ro,sync)
