I've had/have a problem like that before, but it wasn't specific to Firefox or even Linux. I have an optical mouse and I think the jiggling and jumping of the pointer is sometimes due to where I stop the mouse on my desk (has a fine repeating pattern), and sometimes I accidentaly lift it at an angle with my hand when I stop the mouse somewhere. Anyway, it is a very infrequent problem since I realized what was happening.
