It sounds like your router has a problem. You may want to check and
see if there is a firmware update that fixes this. From what you
describe, the router is supposed to be doing DNS caching. That is
why you get the IP address of the router as your name server. It
uses the name server information you have entered to handle DNS
requests from machines on the LAN. The router does not provide the
name server IP information to the machines on the lan. This is why
the machines are not using it - they were not given your ISP's name
server IP addresses, only the IP address of the router.

If you can not fix the router, then you will have to enter your
ISP's name server info into /etc/resolv.conf yourself and turn off
PEERDNS. (Add PEERDNS=NO to
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 or configure it in MCC.)
