They're not inserting them, your e-mail client is. :-) <--- If that shows up
as a graphic in your message display, then you have Kmail set to show
"smileys" as emoticons. If you want to turn it off (or on) in 1.9x it's
under Configure KMail | Appearance | Message Window | Replace smileys by
emoticons....
