Interesting. I have the external version of that modem and it won't work in either windoze or Mandriva 2006.
I think I will also try those suggestions.

Mike, you can check IRQ conflicts like this:

cat /proc/interrupts

From the results, you can see if there are any devices using the same IRQ.

If there are - you can try shifting cards around. Also, if you're -not-
using some things on your PC (printer port, just for example) you can turn
them off in BIOS and gain an IRQ or 2 back. Just make sure its not
something that you are actually using! :-)

HTHs.

I did as you said and got

0: 409269 XT-PIC timer
1: 59 XT-PIC i8042
2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
5: 813 XT-PIC CS4231

8: 1 XT-PIC rtc
9: 1073 XT-PIC acpi, uhci_hcd:usb1, eth0
10: 1 XT-PIC MPU401 UART
11: 5 XT-PIC bttv0, bt878
12: 30622 XT-PIC i8042
14: 21944 XT-PIC ide0
15: 16383 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0

ERR: 0

The modem does not show.
It was installed on windows using com2 and irq 3.
The modem now a winmodem. It is Best Data #56sf92, a controller based modem
which installs in an ISA slot.

Thanks for your reply
