instead of slow printing, we get no printing with the error message:

Does the cups printermanager work when you open a browser and use as an
address:
http:/localhost:631 or
http://127.0.0.1:631
It seems like you have either no cups server installed (only a client)
or that the server is not listening to you:
- either because the loopback network device (lo) is not up (as root
type in 'ifconfig')
- or the server is not listening due to its setup (in cups.conf)
(normally it is with Mandriva)
What you can try with Mandriva's configuraton centre (mcc)
- Go to the devices -> printers
- Select your printer andchoose Edit selected printer (local machine)
-- Automatoc correction of cups settings (is it off or on - try both;
note i have switched it on)
-- switch 'no local cups' (way below) to 'off' (i have it switched off).
-- restart cups with 'service cups restart' (as root)
What you also can try is to delete and redefine your printer

cups interface (localhost:631)
If this does not help i need more information:
- tel me what printer you have
- type in 'lpstat -v -a' and let see what it shows
- type in 'rpm -q cups'
