[newbie] Intel High Def sound

Is Mandrivia compatable with the onboard Intel High-Def sound card on a 
Sony Vaio desktop?

If so - how to get this puppy to work?
I don't want to use Beta OSS drivers for they render any mixer for any 
Window Manager in operable.
