I've just gone over to broadband from dial up. Afterwards I found
that privoxy was blocking access to some urls so I disabled it. It
kept blocking me however so I uninstalled using urpme. Unfortunately
I still can't access most sites I want to go to.

When I installed it I never entirely understood it, and think I
followed instructions from a series of messages here. Where do I
look for the proxy file, and then what do I do with it? Many thanks
Google is a place I can't access, so can't even do that to try to help
myself!
Sorry - very bad form I know! I found my notes about what I did, which
was nothing much. So have fixed it. At least I mean I can access where
I want to go, but of now I will get all the double click stuff. Need to
read up and reinstall it I guess.
no need to reinstall, search for "/etc/hosts doubleclick" and you should
find some examples of how to prevent doubleclick by adding a number of
their IPs to your hosts file and having those IPs look to your own IP,
so any request by doubleclick gets redirected to your loopback IP.
